3/20/02 I still won't have much in the way of pots for another month or so. I am diligently glaze testing, but the results of my efforts are not quite what I would like to see. This week I am firing my test kiln once, sometimes twice, a day. Each firing will test twenty glaze concoctions. I don't think you will find test tiles too interesting. So in the interest of showing you something, I thought I would show you some studio pics.

This is the east end of the studio where all the greenware and bisque sits. Normally, there is shelving, a tile press, a slab roller, a small table, a chair, a trash can and a vacumn- all on wheels- sitting in front of these shelves.

I have been playing poker with the same people every other Friday night for 20 years. Every 8 weeks, the game is at my house and the studio is transformed. Here is a pic looking east....

And looking west....

We start playing pool over at my brother's place about 2:30 on Friday afternoons. That's every Friday, and we play till it is dinner time. On poker nights we play from 2:30 to 5, go home ever so briefly, then go to the poker game at 6:30.

Again, we shoot pool for 10 or 20 a game until 7:30 or until everyone shows. Then it is poker time. It is really open house time and anyone is welcome to stop by. We allocate 175 for food and drink. And that doesn't always cover it! We eat well. While the poker game proceeds friends will shoot pool, as will the poker players. It is a night of gaming, usually until 1 am or so. Pool, poker, dice, liar's poker, and sometimes we set up a putting range and bet on that. Great fun!

Here is the area of the studio where I spend my time nowadays. The glaze kitchen. I should have taken a couple pics of when the studio is in full operation. It gets crowded and messy.

The studio is about 35 x 22 feet. A bit cramped. It used to be a corner mom and pop store. There is another room on the west through the door that used to be a barber shop. That is now my office. And what an office it is. But I don't have any pics at the moment. I'll post some someday.

As I look at this page after I have assembled it, it dawns on me you really can't see the tools of a potter. Rest assured that somewhere in that room is a pug mill, a tile press, a slab roller, spray booth, two stainless sinks-one 8' one 6', two wheels, three kilns- everything a potter needs.
