Mike McAllister of McAllister Auctions is going to auction two of my pots at the Pottery Lovers Auction in Zanesville, Ohio on July 17th at the Holiday Inn just east of Zanesville.
One piece is unlike anything most pottery lovers have seen before. It is titled "One Damn Thing After Another." To enlarge the photo, click the fish. It will give you a clear actual size photo..
It is really a piece of ceramic sculpture. At one time I called it a "Food Chain Pot" where a fish is eating a frog and the frog is eating a dragonfly. There is more eating going on. Fish eating other fish, snake eating fish, a turtle and a frog and the like. All centered around a fish bursting through two lily pond leaves; water flying everywhere. Here's a picture of the other side. Again, click the fish for a large clear photo.
The fish has a fishing lure and hook caught in it's gill as well. I made this piece in October of 1995. It was part of Ed's collection.
The other piece for the Pottery Lovers auction is a smaller Wisteria Pot. Last year, I consigned a pot to the same auction and donated the proceeds to the Pottery Lovers organization. I am doing the same again this year with this pot. Admittedly, it is not as grand a gesture as the piece last year, but it's something. They are all good people and you know I want this organization to prosper! Again, you can click on the picture of the pot to enlarge it to actual size. I won't repeat myself and tell you how I feel about these Wisteria Pots. You have heard it before. This pot is glazed loosely on the inside. As all my Wisterias are.
The camera distorted the shape of this pot a bit. In reality, it is not as bulbous as the photo depicts it. Here's a pic of the top so you can see the insde glazing.
I don't know why pots are not glazed in the inside more often. With these pots I feel it makes a world of difference in the beauty of the pot. Yeah, but what do I know?
