My wife, Kathy, my son, Chris, and I went to Hawaii over the Christmas holidays. A couple of thoughts for those of you that have never been there. It really is part of Polynesia. The islands have dramatic, volcanic landscapes. The beach is ALWAYS in front of you. It is warm and comfortable all the time. The local people look South Seas and homogeneous, but are a mix of Filipino, Japanese, Chinese and Hawaiian. Everyone really does wear Hawaiian shirts! It is a beautiful place and it is easy to see why folks would want to move there to live. If you are a hiker and camper, you could fly to Kawai and hike and camp all over this paradise island all summer and it would cost you next to nothing and you would have an unbelievable time. The population of the state is only 1.2 million, which is pretty sparse. You could wander paradise for months living on mountaintops and private and secluded beaches. Here are just a few photos...
Lush and incredible landscape...
beaches ALWAYS in view -this is Waikiki...
hotels and blooming flowers everywhere...
helicopter rides for the tourists...
tourist spots- here is Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor...
and plenty of shopping and souvenirs. (I could not figure how to get this out of the hotel lobby.)
Anyway, on to pottery. Here are a few things that were on ebay last month. The last of this line of "sweetie" gourds...
a beautiful Grape Vine Pot...
A Dragonfly pot...
and I have been selling almost everything in the studio that occupies horizontal surface area and is not a pot of mine. This A&C lamp was sitting in the studio for years and it had to go. Why?
I need space! I have a ton of bisque that needs to be glaze and I am still making pots. I will start glazing shortly.
Here is what is currently sitting around the studio. Greenware...

and more bisque to be glazed. I had to stop making and fire up six pieces for a show I am going to be in. I had to glaze up these two figurative pieces.
This piece titled "I Burn For You" took a long time to glaze. It depicts me standing in a kiln and handing a finished pot out of the fire.
This Venom Pot is going to be reglazed.
I made two pieces that deal with censorship. This big phallic lingam is covered in fig leaves and is titled "Censored Western Lingam".
and this little guy- well not so little- is almost completely covered in fig leaves.
Here is the finished "I Burn For You" piece. It is a bit religious, creepy, haunting and COOL! I love it. See the extremes I go to for you?
Here is a tile I have to make more of. Everyone that visits the studio wants or at least comments on it.
And here is photo that was in the folder so I am including it in this update. It is me, my son, Chris, three nephews and my brother. We all own and manage building in the City of St. Louis and we have lunch together every day at 12:30. It is great to be together and we always have a wonderful time.
