You may have noticed- at least I hope you noticed- that I missed my usual update day a couple of weeks ago. Since Ohio, I have had three things that have stopped me making pots for the last three months. First is a backyard overhall. You have probably seen a few pictures of this project in the past six months. Well, I am glad to report it is finished!
You have not seen pictures of the latest fence addition. This section closed off the alley. A 12" concrete wall - to "stop" dumpsters and cars from hitting the wood. And a wood fence entirely up on steel so no wood touches the ground. In addition, the gate is a wood veneer over a steel frame and steel gate. Super heavy duty. The lock is all copper and brass. Built to last! Beautiful, huh?? (Same way I make my pots.)
A chance to put a few pieces of sculpture in the yard. Notice the buddha in the first picture?
Second is the new kitchen. It too, is done! Am I tired of working on it!
Another view.
And another.
I think the tiles inserted into the tile back splash are the stars of the show. I just finished these up today. The installation that is. I did not make the tiles. They were made by Susan Bostwick, a potter over in Edwardsville, Illinois.
I still have to clean them up from grouting. As I said, I just grouted them 4 hours ago.
Ok, the third thing holding me up from pottin' is some recent hand surgery. Nothing too serious. I dislocated my pinky on my left hand and had to have surgery to get it back in place. Volleyball did it. Anyway, it should not be a big deal though I have to take it easy for a month. I am not in the throwing part of my making cycle so the hand is not a problem. I still have lots of pots that are bisqued and need glaze.
But for the immediate future, I am going to work on my frames and tiles project. No sooner did I clean up my grouting tools when I started in on this frame. This type of frame is going to hold panels like these shown on a previous update.
I am going to devote some time and energy to these frames and tiles. I hope they work out. I think they will be the focus of my attention for the next month or so. I'll be back on my updatin' every two weeks. Stay tuned.
