You might remember that last spring the last 60# of clay I had turned into seven wonderful pots. I showed you the picture below at that time and said that I would try to track those seven through the process and to the buyer. I do have a number of pics of just that and since what I have been doing around the studio is not THAT exciting, I have decided to show you those "process pictures". Below is a pic of the "Magnificant Seven."
First is the tall one in the back of the above picture. I called it "my best pot of 2002." Indeed, I think it was. I added some handles...
Here is when it is finished in it's green (not yet bisqued) state.
I used it as a poster up in Zanesville and put the picture below on the door (labelled as my best of 2002) before I opened my door to sell. (Photo credit: my son, Chris.)
Terry, the new owner pictured below, told her husband Len that it "was his mission" to get that pot when the door opened. Indeed he did! He walked across the bed to get to it! I love it!!!
Next pot is the second from the left in the back of the opening picture. It turned into a Sumac pot....
And a real beauty it is...
And I knew it would be a great pot from the start. As I suspected all seven would be.
I did write just that on the bottom. And it is a bit of a prediction, since I have to write that in cobalt on the botton before it is fired.
And the happy owner is...
Yep, it is mine and it is the only Sumac I have. And for those of you that want it, I WILL make even better ones this year. Be patient.
I'll show you one more. This is the pot in the front of the first picture. This is a new design and it is the only one of these pots I have made to date. It was in the last firing of last year. It has a wonderful native American/Southwest shape. The pic below is distorted by the camera...
Here it is after all the clay work...
And the bottom of the pot...
And as I start to glaze..
And the finished pot, which at this moment is in the "Greater Midwest International Exhibition" at Central Missouri State University. Yep, another one I kept. Can you blame me? It's the only one. But don't worry. Don't worry. I have already made some of these and they will be fired late spring.
Here are pics of two of the other pieces and the owners. Here is Tim, who has a number of my best pots. The piece in his left hand is in the first picture on this page
And Don with one of the seven in his left hand...
The pot that Don has in his right hand down low is also a great pot. I wish I had not sold it. It is a unique one of a kind and I want to make more like it and it would be good to have it around. Oh well...
That's it for this year. A healthy and prosperous New Year to you all. May every wish you have-espiecally if it concerns pots- come true. (I'll try to do my part!)
